It’s nice outside in Phoenix, Arizona! For a few more months Arizona homeowners can inspect their homes and yards for small projects that will increase the value of the space, whether you are looking to sell or not! At CENTURY 21 Northwest, we have over 40 years of experience selling Arizona real estate. We know that although an easy, livable backyard does not necessarily sell a house by itself…it sure doesn’t hurt with getting that contract of sale signed! Not to mention, it is so nice to turn your backyard into a social and comfortable place to relax or have family fun, even if you are not looking to sell.
It may still get a bit chilly here at night, but as we all know, and anyone who just moved into a home in Phoenix, Arizona will soon find out, the summer is coming: best be ready. There are two kinds of Phoenix, Arizona homes: with a pool and without a pool. Regardless of the amount of water in your backyard, every home could use a bit more for cooling purposes. Without increasing your water bill too much, you can easily install your own misting system for those lazy summer days.
1. Measure your porch or fence length. Don’t forget to include the distance from the water source to the porch.
2. Purchase flexible tubing (found at Home Depot or Lowes), allowing for a little extra in case you mismeasured. Remember to buy the additional valves, hose connector, and mounting hardware!
3. Attach the tubing to your hose or water source, without turning on the water. Proceed to mount the tubing along your porch with brackets, glue, caulk, or whatever you chose to use.
4. Pour yourself a cool drink, turn on, and voilà!
What better way to create a lively and beautiful atmosphere in your Arizona home backyard than by installing a fire pit? For an instant social space anywhere in your backyard, you can purchase a fire pit from any home store in Phoenix. However, you may want to make a more permanent installment to your yard that will increase the value and utility of your home (without breaking your budget). CENTURY 21 Northwest has attached a few links to DIY fire pit websites. Take a look at some of these easy and inexpensive projects and consider starting one this weekend!

We always want our CENTURY 21 Northwest clients to stay safe. Remember that working with heavy and sharp materials can be extremely dangerous! We recommend that you aspire to try this project yourself, if only for the gratification and beauty of the finished product. However, contact your local home inspection agency with any code or construction questions!
In many local Arizona neighborhoods, the front yards run together with beige gravel and brown stones resembling a scene from Star Wars’ Tatooine. We understand the costs involved with yard upkeep in the desert. Water and maintenance bills are such a burden for an area you rarely spend time in, except to pass through on your way to the mailbox. However, your home’s backyard can be a different story, an oasis, your kingdom. There are plenty of colorful desert plants that require minimal (if any) care and can give your Arizona home’s backyard the facelift it so desperately needs. Consider planting some small barrel cacti and desert succulents in a couple large pots around your porch and backyard. If you don’t mind tending to a few species of flowers every once in a while, we recommend planting some “birds of paradise” around your yard or roses of any color! A rose planted in the right location can actually survive the brutal Arizona heat!
Choose one of these projects, or all three. CENTURY 21 Northwest Realty encourages you to get outside and enjoy your property to the fullest! Turn your Arizona real estate into your Phoenix family home.
