Peoria is one of the fastest-growing cities in the Valley of the Sun. And with good reason — from well-rated school districts to world-class amenities and recreational opportunities, residents have found that living in Peoria, AZ truly offers something for everyone. Technically a man-made reservoir, Lake Pleasant’s surface area is 7,500 acres and it sits within a larger outdoor recreation area. With more than 100 miles of shoreline, 450 picnic sites, 165 camping sites, seven miles of trails, four overlooks and a full-service marina equipped to handle 1,000 boats, Lake Pleasant is the largest lake in the area.Several of the Phoenix-area freeway systems connect Lake Pleasant to the rest of the Valley, meaning that residents can enjoy their outdoors lifestyle while still accessing the amenities of nearby urban areas.
From bass and sunfish to catfish and crappies, anglers living in Peoria, AZ continue to have good luck fishing in Lake Pleasant’s waters. In addition to fishing, boating, camping, hiking and mountain biking in the beautiful desert landscape are also popular pastimes.

With convenient access to the Loop 101, the Rio Vista Recreation Center and Arrowhead Towne Center Mall, residents enjoy easy commutes to fun and work. Whether you need to get to Glendale, Phoenix or out of town, the location of Desert Harbor communities is fantastic.
With numerous boat docks and pontoon boats, water recreation enthusiasts enjoy some of the longest shore to shore distances available in any lake community in the Phoenix-metro area. Many homes also come with exclusive boating and fishing privileges on the private, namesake lake. Desert Harbor is a great option for families considering living in Peoria, AZ. Many of the homes in Desert Harbor are within walking distance of Desert Harbor Elementary School — an A-rated elementary school serving grades pre-K – 8 with an enrollment of about 850 students.
Just four miles from the 101 and northwest of Desert Harbor, Ventana Lakes is a beautiful 55+ active adult community that boasts nine lakes that cover more than 30 acres.
Ventana Lakes was created specifically for fishing and boating enthusiasts in mind but still offer many other activities and amenities to accommodate a range of hobbies and lifestyles.
In addition to fishing and recreation related to the lakes, residents enjoy hiking and walking trails, a clubhouse that features a fitness center, sauna, and steam rooms, as well as access to card games, arts and crafts and even live stage performances at the Yacht Club. The community is adjacent to the Willow Creek Golf Course and Coyotes Lakes Golf Club.
Primarily offering single family homes, Ventana Lakes does have a few areas with attached homes. The homes range in size from about 1,200 to 2,000 square feet, perfect to accommodate those in or approaching retirement who want a house small enough to easily maintain but large enough to entertain visiting family.
