Why Phoenix is the Best City in the West for Millenials

When most people think of cities with huge millennial populations, they turn their minds to the coast. Cities like San Francisco and Portland certainly get a lot of attention in the media, but those cities are becoming prohibitively expensive to the same people they seem to work so hard to attract. One city that often gets overlooked is Phoenix, which combines a low cost of living with the kind of lifestyles that people in their twenties and thirties love. There’s a reason why Phoenix is routinely considered to be the best city for millenials who want to relocate to the west.

Phoenix: The best city for millenials

It’s one thing to say that Phoenix is a great city, but another to really experience all that it has to offer. The city’s fantastic growth has been happening for years, though in most cases quite quietly. If you really want to understand why so many people are moving to Phoenix, you need to understand the top reasons why so many have pulled up stakes and relocated to Arizona. Below are just a handful of the things that make the city so attractive to people that are trying to get their lives started.

Cost of living

One of the biggest reasons that younger people are flocking to Phoenix has to do with the cost of living. While the city is growing quickly, it’s one of the few places in the west that still has very affordable housing. Whether you’re looking at one of Phoenix’s many modern communities or even at an apartment, you’ll notice that the prices are far lower than in comparable cities. It’s a place where you can still afford to pursue your dreams and have a house at the same time.

This cost of living difference really stands out when you’re looking at how far money goes in other ways. Gas prices and food prices are both much lower than they are on the coast. Because outrageous tech CEO salaries haven’t become the norm as they have in places like San Francisco or Silicon Valley, it’s very possible to go out and have a great time even when you have a normal budget. If you’re looking for a place where you can live well without already being at the pinnacle of your career, you have to start with Phoenix.

A diverse population

The term ‘melting pot’ is often used to describe the United States, but it seems like many of the big cities on the West Coast are becoming more insular by the minute. If you’re looking for a place to go where people and cultures truly meet, Phoenix will be a pleasant surprise for you. It’s not just that the city has people from diverse backgrounds, but rather that the city seems to go out of its way to embrace everyone who resides in the area. It’s one of the few places you can move that seems to be honestly excited to have new transplants changing the community.

One of the big reasons that Phoenix is so diverse is that it actually has more transplants than natives. If you go out for a cup of coffee, you’ll be sure to hear more accents from around the country – and the world – than in most other places. When everyone is a relative stranger to the city, you’ll find that it’s much easier to network and plant roots yourself. The struggles that come from being new to a city are much easier when you know that everyone around you has recently gone through the same thing.

Commitment to growth

Phoenix has also become a quiet giant in the economy, functioning as a hotbed for development as well as a home for many established companies. This is a city that really embraces growth and change, one that always seems to not only be hiring, but making room for new entrepreneurs. This is where you go when you want to get in on the ground floor of something special, as well as when you want to find an exciting company that’s already changing the way the economy works.

This commitment to growth isn’t just in the business world, though. Phoenix is constantly adding more to do, largely thanks to its influx of new residents and its recent graduates. It seems like there are more new activities, restaurants, and shopping activities popping up every day. If you really want to be in a place that’s constantly growing and changing, you’ll be pleased by what Phoenix has to offer. While you can go anywhere to feel a sense of establishment, Phoenix is where you go for a sense of growth.

Close to nature

When you think of Arizona, you probably think of deserts. To be fair, the Grand Canyon State has plenty of those. What you might not realize, though, is that Arizona actually has a fairly diverse client that makes it one of the best states to live in if you love going outside. While you can’t find the fantastic views offered by the desert landscape in most states, you also won’t be in a position to be so close to forests and skiing anywhere else. It’s one of the few places in the world you can go to be a short drive away from almost any physical activity in which you’d like to participate.

The cost of living in Phoenix is low enough that you’ll really have more time to get out there and enjoy all the state has to offer. It’s just a short drive from some of the best townhome communities to the lake or river of your choice, in which you can participate in anything from a relaxing swim to high-speed water sports. If water isn’t your thing, you can head up north to go skiing or mountain biking. You’ll even have the chance to go on one of the many local nature trails where you can enjoy the scenery at your own pace.

best city for millenials

If you do your research, it’s easy to see why millennials choose this city. From the low cost of living in Phoenix to the fantastic sense of community and growth, it has everything you need to get your life started. While it might seem that some of the best opportunities for growth are on the coast, don’t forget about Phoenix when you’re considering your next move. If you’re curious about everything the city has to offer, make sure to contact CENTURY 21 Northwest to get all of your questions answered by one of our trusted agents today.
