The Valley of the sun is full of modern homes and communities that are constantly upgrading their neighborhoods to keep up with the fast-paced lifestyle of Arizonans. Some cities in the Valley are taking more measures than others to make their district more futuristic and functional. This includes but is not limited to the development of convenient transportation, new buildings and infrastructures, and ways to fight against pollution. If you’re looking to buy an AZ home, here are the top 3 cities in the Valley that are making huge modernized leaps in already metropolitan areas:
Phoenix AZ, the heart of the Valley, has undoubtedly been making modern changes to their city in the past few years. When it comes to public transportation, Phoenix is well known for the Valley Metro light rail system that runs a 26-mile line to other neighboring communities in the Valley. This light rail is quiet, air-conditioned, and operates nearly 18 to 22 hours a day with stops every 12 to 20 minutes. Commuting in Phoenix is a simple task when you’re located close to the light rail as is consists of 35 stations. Otherwise, Phoenix AZ has 59 bus routes, 23 Express and RAPID bus routes, and Dial-A-Ride which provides service for those with disabilities.
Another way Phoenix neighborhoods are advancing their community is by building new modern homes. In fact, it’s been reported that there are 362 new communities and 2,540 new homes in Phoenix this year. Another relevant example of 2017 construction projects includes building 306-unit luxury apartments on Third and Indian School Road. They are also constructing 111 “luxury urban condominiums” with a community pool, outdoor space, and workout facilities near Biltmore Fashion Park. There will also be a 44 home-gated community established near the Arcadia neighborhood. These are great improvements because they are remodeling old or unused areas to create a refreshed vicinity to encourage more people to visit or move there.

Not only are there new modern homes being built, but an increase in education levels in Phoenix AZ is being encouraged as well. Out of a population of 1,514,208, 81% of Phoenicians are high school graduates or higher, and only 27% have a Bachelor’s Degree or higher. The median age between men and women is 33.2 years old which means the population is still young and thriving to better their city. You can see these educated minds in action by the multiple environmental programs the City of Phoenix has put in place to save energy and lower pollution levels. Such as Energize Phoenix, which demonstrates average ways a resident or business owner can reduce unnecessary energy use, or Clean Air Make More which makes strides in reducing the number of days Maricopa exceeds the federal health standard for air pollution.
While Phoenix may have a higher population, smaller cities like Tempe AZ are also a great competitor of modern communities in the Valley. For starters, Tempe definitely has Phoenix beat when it comes to modern public transportation. Not only do they have access to the Valley Metro light rail, but they also have nine stations in the Tempe Transportation Center, which connects the light rail to more than a dozen bus routes. Their bus service has 20 routes on all major arterial streets throughout the city. There are also four free shuttles connecting to the ASU campus and downtown Tempe neighborhoods which are convenient for students and adults alike. Not to mention that Tempe is huge on bike culture and has 150 miles of bikeways in the city to increase economical means of travel.
Tempe AZ locals truly take pride in upgrading their community to its fullest potential. This is why they have built 2,564 new modern homes and 352 new communities to accommodate new residents moving in. They have also set priorities to develop Kiwanis/Lakes, and Corona/south Tempe by preserving historical homes, partaking in and encouraging local companies to stay in business, adding bike route systems in new neighborhoods, and building dog parks and restaurants to make things more convenient for the other residents.
It’s no surprise that this college-centered city has much higher education levels than Phoenix. Out of a population of 169,816, 92% of Tempe locals have graduated high school or higher, and 42% have accomplished a Bachelor’s Degree or higher. These impressive stats are accompanied by the fact that the median age of this city is only 28.3 which shows just how many young college students and business owners are sticking around to better their town. An example of this would be the RISN Incubator, recently developed by ASU that focuses on the utilization of waste as a recycled material for new products or energy. This will contribute to achieving Phoenix’s 40% waste diversion goal by 2020.
When thinking of futuristic, innovative cities in the Valley, Scottsdale AZ is one of the first cities that comes to mind. Scottsdale homes have always been known for its posh neighborhoods, entertainment, and restaurants. What you may not know about this great city is that it’s also bountiful is the amount of public transportation it offers. Connected via the Valley Metro, you can also count on Paratransit services, the Scottsdale Trolley, and Cab Connection to get you around town. These services benefits are available to ride for a reduced fare if you are a senior over the age of 65, or for those with disabilities. Having so many personalized options for transportation makes it simple to go out and run errands, visit family, or enjoy a leisurely activity without the worry of having to deal with navigating through traffic on your own.
As previously mentioned, most Arizonans recognize Scottsdale for its ability to build chic new buildings, infrastructures, and modern homes. Just this year, there are 369 new communities and 2,581 new homes available for purchase or under construction. Because this city is currently experiencing a population boom, they are looking to revamp their neighborhoods with new housing and commercial projects this year. These projects include remodeling vacant retail shops in Old Town Scottsdale into four high-end condominiums. They also plan to renovate “the Dirty Drummer bar” which closed three years ago to persuade more local businesses to establish their roots nearby. Along with a 20-unit townhouse complex and 24 urban-style homes near Scottsdale Stadium, this city is keeping busy with modernizing its district more and more each year.
Scottsdale AZ outranks Phoenix and Tempe when it comes to levels of education, seeing as 89.6% of their residents have graduated high school or higher and 47.16% have attained their Bachelor’s Degree or higher. And with a population of 317,395, the median age group is 45.77 years old. This can be seen in the many successful local businesses run by older, educated owners and employees. Because of the many businesses located in Scottsdale, they have put a program in place called the Commercial Green Construction Code that requires developers to include renewable energy systems, water efficient plumbing systems, indoor material emissions, and pollutant control when constructing new buildings. If you are looking for a city that is ideal for growing new and old companies, Scottsdale AZ may just be the perfect place.
